Simple Recipes for the Holiday Rush
APOPKA, FL -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 10/29/2003 -- During the holiday season,
one of the most celebrated traditions is feasting on festive food. For
party organizers in the midst of the holiday rush, simple recipes are a must.
Simply Orange -- a not-from-concentrate, "Simply unfooled around with"™
orange juice that was recently introduced nationally -- offers the
following recipes...from sweet potatoes with a twist to
delicious desserts and festive drinks.
While there are no promises that Aunt Edna will like the heated slippers
or that Johnny will appreciate the bunny sweater from Grams, these recipes
are guaranteed to be a fast and tasty way to impress holiday party guests.
Simply Orange Smoothies
Simply Orange "Orange You Glad You Worked Out" Sipper
INGREDIENTS:
3/4 cup (6 ounces) cold Simply Orange orange juice
3/4 cup (6 ounces) cold Minute Maid Country Style Lemonade
3/4 cup (6 ounces) cold Minute Maid Guava Passion Fruit Juice
1 1/2 teaspoons grenadine
Orange slice, for garnish (optional)
DIRECTIONS:
1. Stir together the orange juice, lemonade, guava passion fruit juice,
and grenadine.
2. Pour into a glass with ice cubes or crushed ice. Serve immediately.
Makes 1 serving (about 18 ounces)
Simply Orange Berry Delicious Banana Citrus Fling
INGREDIENTS:
3/4 cup (6 ounces) cold Minute Maid Raspberry Lemonade
3/4 cup (6 ounces) cold Simply Orange Orange Juice
1 cup fresh or frozen thawed strawberries
1 medium ripe banana, peeled and cut into 2-inch chunks
1/2 cup ice cubes
Fresh strawberry and/or orange slice, for garnish (optional)
DIRECTIONS:
1. Place all the ingredients except the garnish in the container of a
blender. Process just until combined and smooth and creamy. If
necessary, stop the blender and give the mixture a stir to loosen
any strawberries, bananas, or ice cubes that may have lodged around
the blades of the blender.
2. Pour into a chilled glass and serve immediately. Garnish with a
strawberry and/or orange slice, if desired.
Makes 1 serving (about 22 ounces)
Simply Orange's Awesome Orange Banana Power Drink
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup (8 ounces) cold Simply Orange orange juice
1/2 cup (4 ounces) cold vanilla soymilk
1 medium ripe banana, peeled and cut into 2-inch chunks
1/2 cup ice cubes
DIRECTIONS:
1. Place all the ingredients in the container of a blender. Process just
until combined and smooth and creamy. If necessary, stop the blender
and give the mixture a stir to loosen any ice cubes or banana that
may have lodged around the blades of the blender.
2. Pour into a chilled glass and serve immediately.
Makes 1 serving (about 20 ounces)
Simply Orange Mixed Drinks and Punches
Simply Mimosa
Preparation time: 2 minutes. The flavor of strawberries pairs festively
with the bubbly in this traditional brunch favorite, complemented by
the smooth, golden taste of Simply Orange.
INGREDIENTS:
Two cups (16 fl. oz.) Simply Orange
1 (750 milliliter) bottle champagne
8 strawberries with leaves, rinsed and dried
DIRECTIONS:
1. Divide Simply Orange and champagne into chilled champagne tulips.
2. Press a strawberry on the lip of each glass for garnish.
Makes 8 servings
Simply Orange Dreamsicle Punch
INGREDIENTS:
4 cups Simply Orange orange juice
1 cup milk
3 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons grated orange peel
1 cup chilled sparkling water
1 quart orange sherbet
DIRECTIONS:
1. Combine Simply Orange orange juice, milk, sugar and orange peel in
large pitcher or pan. Blend until sugar dissolves.
Cover and refrigerate.
2. Before serving, pour in sparkling water and stir. Scoop sherbet into
punchbowl. Pour in punch and serve.
Makes 12 servings
Simply Orange Wallbanger
INGREDIENTS:
1 oz. Vodka
1/2 oz. Galliano
4 oz. Simply Orange orange juice
DIRECTIONS:
1. Pour vodka and Simply Orange orange juice into a collins glass
over ice cubes and stir.
2. Float Galliano on top and serve.
Simply Orange Desserts/Snacks
Simply Orange Citrus Cake
Preparation time: 40 minutes. Simply Orange adds flavor to this cake as
well as serving as an easy sauce to top it.
INGREDIENTS:
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup butter, softened
1 egg, beaten
2 cups (16 fl. oz.) Simply Orange
1 3/4 cups unsifted all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon cornstarch
DIRECTIONS:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease an 8-inch square baking pan.
2. Beat sugar, butter, and egg until fluffy in a medium bowl with an
electric beater. Add one cup Simply Orange, the flour, baking powder,
baking soda, and salt; beat on low speed just until combined.
3. Transfer batter to pan and bake 25 to 30 minutes or until a cake
tester inserted in the center comes out clean.
4. Meanwhile, whisk together remaining 1 cup Simply Orange and the
cornstarch in a small saucepan; cook over low heat, stirring
constantly until sauce has thickened. Cool cake 5 minutes. Cut into
squares and serve warm, topped with sauce.
Makes 9 servings
Tangerine Granola
Preparation time: 20 to 25 minutes. If you plan to store the granola for
more than a few days, don't add the fruit until you are ready to serve it.
INGREDIENTS:
2 cups (16 fl. oz.) Simply Orange orange juice
1 tablespoon honey
3 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
1 cup sliced natural almonds
1 cup chopped dried fruit mixture or raisins
DIRECTIONS:
1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Oil a large rimmed baking sheet.
2. Simmer Simply Orange orange juice in a large skillet until reduced to
1/2 cup. Stir in honey, then oats and almonds; spread mixture out
onto the baking sheet.
3. Bake granola about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, or until oats
and almonds begin to brown. Cool completely; stir in fruit and serve
or store in an airtight container.
Makes 6 servings
Simply Orange Side Dishes
Simply Orange Sweet Potatoes
Preparation time: 55 minutes.
INGREDIENTS:
4 large sweet potatoes (2 pounds), peeled and sliced
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons unsifted all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups (16 fl. oz.) Simply Orange
2 tablespoons butter
DIRECTIONS:
1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a shallow 2-quart baking dish;
arrange sweet potatoes in dish.
2. In small, heavy saucepan, combine brown sugar, flour, and salt;
gradually stir in Simply Orange and add the butter.
3. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Pour over
sweet potatoes in baking dish.
4. Bake, uncovered, 45 minutes or until sweet potatoes are
tender and glazed.
