What America Eats - Today

November 2004 (Newstream) --

ANCHOR LEAD: Parade magazine is out with its popular annual survey - "What America Eats." Matt Kelly takes a look at the nation's latest eating habits. (:60)

SCRIPT: Lifestyles, I'm Matt Kelly. When it comes to what consumers want, think two words: NUTRITION and CONVENIENCE. According to the survey, in which Parade partnered with ConAgra Foods, Americans are looking to new mealtime options for their increasingly fast-paced lifestyles. Parade's Senior Editor Fran Carpentier.

CUT: (Carpentier) This year's food survey makes it clear that Americans want more convenience and choice in what they eat. Seven in 10 told us they want more ways to serve good meals in a hurry. Nearly half want nutritious foods that suit the individual dietary needs of everyone in the family. The good news is that more food companies are catering to these needs, both at the grocery and in restaurants.

SCRIPT: Consumers who want nutritious meals low in fat and cholesterol-controlled can find brands like Egg Beaters and Healthy Choice. Carb-conscious eaters have options like dinners from Life Choice. Families on-the-go can choose great-tasting new meals like Banquet Crock-Pot Classics and Manwich Heat & Serve sloppy joes. From breakfast to bedtime, Americans are finding new answers to meet their mealtime needs. I'm Matt Kelly.
