Frisian Recipes – Recipes from Fryslan
Fryslan is in the nortern parts of the Netherlands.
The Dutch were all over the world in the midst of the 17th century.
Peter Stuyvesant was the Frisian-born mayor of what used to be “Nieuw-Amsterdam”. Today better known as New York.
He must have been eating according to the recipes on this page.
Especially the soups and one pot meals are made the same way for centuries.
I can imagine that the “snert” (peasoup) was one of his favorites:
Perfect for cold climates: all ingredients can be kept very long, you just have to shoot a pig
.
When snert is made the right way you can place a wooden spoon straight-up in the pan and it won’t fall over … And it tastes even better the second day.
