Remembering Help Received After Sept. 11, New York Sends Officers to Louisiana
Some New York City police officers who arrived here over the last few days were serving on the front lines of a national crisis for a second time. They had been there, too, when the attack on the World Trade Center, a man-made disaster, took the lives of 23 members of their department.

Teaching 9/11
How do you teach about September 11? It’s a difficult subject, and it comes early in the school year, leaving teachers little time to prepare when they come back in the fall. But some educators have found creative ways to handle the anniversary.

Kin of Sept. 11 Dead Pray for Storm Victims
For Rosaleen Tallon, it was the images of row after row of collapsed homes, roofs on the ground and the wood in stray piles that hit too close to home. The houses destroyed by Hurricane Katrina reminded her of how the World Trade Center collapsed after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, killing some 2,749 people, including her brother, Sean.

9/11 Rescuer Recalls Fear and Faith
A huge cloud of ash came whipping around the corner of a building in Lower Manhattan, swallowing first the daylight and then her. When the dust cloud had her in its suffocating grip, it lifted her off the ground and threw her down, where she lay until fear compelled her once more to her feet and darkness engulfed her once again.
